Blazons of Germany - Y
This alphabetical index presents 9 German-linked shield entries beginning with Y from Johannes Baptista Rietstap’s Armorial Général, second edition, volume II. The French blazons are translated into English with heraldic abbreviations expanded.
Separate families and branches are retained, with Coat of Arms after each surname heading. The descriptions refer to the particular families and branches recorded by Rietstap, rather than everyone who shares a surname.
Scope: Following our Germany Z index, this collection includes entries labelled Germany and those associated with Bavaria, Westphalia, Prussia and Alsace. These are historical regional labels, not a statement of modern borders or a single nationality. The Hungarian origin recorded for Yrsch is retained. Entries located solely in Austria, Switzerland or other countries are excluded.
Transcription: These are shield blazons; crests, helmets, mantling and supporters are omitted. Abbreviations such as gu., arg., sa. and sin. are written as gules, argent, sable and vert. Ec. is written as quarterly. References to another entry are expanded where they can be resolved from the printed text. Missing details are identified rather than supplied.
